HDS-NCNW participated in the Victor Valley Family Fun Day on September 3, 2022. The purpose of the event was to drive membership and voter registration. Several non-profit organizations in the area participated. There was free food (hot dogs (beef, turke y and plant based), chips, and water). NAACP hosted the event, and NCNW had a booth. We distributed membership brochures and gave away mini flashlights with our information on the label. HDS-NCNW donated three cases of (80, 8 oz.) water bottles and also donated the paper goods for the event. Thank you all who came out to support, we had a great time in the community.

“We have powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power towards a good end.” Mary McLeod Bethune

As we reembark upon this new year I am hopeful for a year of unity, collaboration and working together. We are beginning the year with a collaborative event for the High Desert in which African American organizations are coming together for a High Desert B lack Empowerment on Saturday January 29, 2023. This is the type of togetherness I wish to continue throughout the year as we share ideas to uplift your youth and the community.

“Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” Psalms 133:1

“Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success.” Henry Ford

“Team work makes the dream work, but a vision becomes a nightmare when the leader has a big dream and a bad team” John C. Maxwell

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” Helen Keller

Black, White, men, women and the Bible have all said great things about working together. Let’s work together, get thing s done and be great.”

Dr. Sarah ShaBazz

WE ARE 40 YEARS OLD

The High Desert Section of the National Council of Negro Women turned 40 in September. The Masquerade Ball that was scheduled to celebrate our birthday on September 24th was cancelled because of lack interest.

On October 15, 2022, we celebrated our 40th birthday at Mimi’s Café in Victorville. The Executive Board for 2022-2024 were sworn in by Attorney Rebekah Muhammad. Members wore their beads and masks. Adelanto, CA City Councilwoman Evans presented us with the Proclamation that would have been given at the Masquerade Ball. Dr. Sarah ShaBazz, President of HDS-NCNW, recognized and gave gifts to four members for their dedication to the Section. At the party, two members were reclaimed. Pictures were taken of members in their masks.
